American Government

11th Grade

Course Description

American Government is a required course which takes students from the purposes of government on to the principles on which the American Government is based.  The class then looks at the organization of how our government is shaped, why it is designed in this way and finally how it works ultimately for the benefit of the American people.  American Government is a single semester course comprised of four primary units:

Each unit will include daily assignments, projects, discussions, as well as a summative test at the end of each unit.  Be prepared to participate in class daily in discussions as well as group work because you will be graded on participation as well as academic performance.  Democracy is a fragile system built on participation and therefore this class reflects that principle.
